The area around
Location score 68/100The cluster sits on the Hyblean plateau (Monti Iblei), a low limestone upland of rolling hills, karst plateaus and deep gulleys. The Ionian Sea lies to the east of the Iblei and the Val di Noto coastal plain is within short driving distance. There are no large lakes or national parks inside the immediate 15 km; the local land use is predominantly agricultural with olive groves, vineyards, almond and cereal cultivation. Comiso is the nearest small town and has a regional airport (Aeroporto di Comiso) and basic services; Ragusa, the provincial capital, provides hospitals, larger shops and the baroque centre Ragusa Ibla. The late-Baroque towns of the Val di Noto (UNESCO World Heritage) are in the same district, with Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Scicli the closest listed towns. The area is known for olive oil production and for hilltop towns with panoramic views; Chiaramonte Gulfi is locally referred to as the 'Balcone di Sicilia'.
