The cluster lies on the Piana Reatina (the inland plain around the provincial capital Rieti). The plain is an agricultural plateau bounded by the foothills of the central Apennines to the north and east. The Velino river runs through the Rieti area and drains the plain; small streams and irrigation channels are common in the landscape. The nearest town of size is Rieti (provincial capital) with administrative offices, shops, secondary services and a hospital, approximately within the 15 km radius. The nearest ski lifts are at Monte Terminillo, about 30–40 km away (roughly a 40–60 minute drive). There is no national-park or UNESCO site within a 15 km radius; the immediate surroundings are ordinary agricultural countryside with small villages.
