The Lepini Mountains rise immediately east of Artena, with limestone ridges and foothill slopes shaping the area within a few kilometres. The Sacco valley lies alongside the town and forms the main lowland landscape here. The Monti Lepini are included in the Monti Lepini area protected by the regional park system of Lazio, with mountain roads and trail access on the eastern side of town. Valmontone is the nearest larger town and provides rail access, motorway connections and the main everyday services for the area. The wider zone is known for olive groves, hillside historic centres and the old route between Rome and the inland Ciociaria towns.
