The area around
Location score 85/100The Tyrrhenian Sea and the Cilento coast lie to the west of the cluster. The archaeological area of Paestum with three large Greek Doric temples and the Museo Archeologico Nazionale is adjacent to Capaccio Paestum. The Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park is in the surrounding area and the wider park and its cultural sites (including Paestum and Velia and the Certosa di Padula) are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Sele river and its agricultural plain run nearby and the river mouth is on the local coast. Sandy beaches, marinas and beach-establishment tourism infrastructure are present along the nearby coastline. The town of Agropoli, with a medieval castle and a marina/port, is the nearest notable coastal town. Paestum railway station is on the Naples–Reggio Calabria coastal line and regional road and motorway connections run through the plain. The area has significant agricultural production, including buffalo-milk mozzarella (Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO), tomatoes and olive oil. There are no ski lifts within a 15 km radius.
