The cluster lies in the Val di Vara, in the foothills of the Ligurian Apennines. The Vara river runs through the valley and the local landscape is wooded hills with areas of small-scale agriculture and orchard/woodland parcels. Within about 15 km are small towns such as Varese Ligure and Brugnato that provide basic services, shops and local administration. The Ligurian coast and beaches lie to the south and are the nearest stretch of seaside, but the immediate surroundings are inland valley and hillside. The area is crossed by minor provincial roads and local trails used for walking and access between villages.
