The cluster is in the upper Volturno area with the central-southern Apennines around it, and the Mainarde mountains rise to the south-west on the Molise–Lazio–Abruzzo side. The Volturno river basin shapes this part of the province, with small valleys, wooded slopes and cultivated ground around the settlements. The nearest substantial town is Isernia, which has the main services, rail connections and a preserved old centre. This part of Molise is known for inland Apennine hill country, pasture, woodland and small historic centres rather than for a single standout landmark within immediate reach.
