The Brembo river rises in this area, and within the 15 km radius there are alpine valleys, conifer woods, high pasture and reservoirs including Lago Moro and the lakes around Carona. The area is tied to the Bergamo Orobie Regional Park. Ski lifts are in Foppolo itself and at Carona, with a linked local ski domain on the Val Brembana side. The nearest town of some size is San Giovanni Bianco farther down the valley; day-to-day services in the upper valley are in smaller centres such as Branzi and Piazza Brembana. The area is known for winter sports, summer walking and mountain huts in the Orobie.
