The cluster sits on the Ligurian coast, part of the Riviera di Ponente often called the Riviera dei Fiori. The coastal plain is narrow and the land rises quickly into the Ligurian/Maritime Alps a few kilometres inland. The River Impero runs to the sea at Imperia. The town of Imperia provides a railway station on the Genoa–Ventimiglia coastal line, access to the A10 motorway (Autostrada dei Fiori) and a commercial port/marina and local services. The area is known for small-scale fishing ports, boat marinas and cultivation of Taggiasca olives and olive oil production, and for horticulture/flower production associated with the Riviera dei Fiori.
