Chianciano Terme is a thermal spa town with natural thermal springs and public spa facilities. The cluster sits on the Valdichiana plain and surrounding low hills; land use around it is vineyards, olive groves and arable farming. Montepulciano lies within roughly 12 km and has a medieval historic centre and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano wine production. Chiusi is within about 8 km and contains Etruscan archaeological sites and the Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Chiusi. There are no national or regional parks or major lakes inside a 15 km radius. Nearest ski lifts (Monte Amiata) are about 35–40 km away (roughly 45–60 minutes by car). The A1 autostrada and the Chiusi–Chianciano railway station provide road and rail links to Florence and Rome. The immediate surroundings are low-relief agricultural and hill-country rather than high mountains or coast.
