Campochiaro sits at the edge of the WWF Oasi Guardiaregia-Campochiaro, a large protected area on the Matese slopes with gorges, springs and beech woods. The Matese Regional Park spans this mountain area on the Molise-Campania border. The nearest ski area is Campitello Matese, about 30-40 minutes by road, on the high plateau inside the massif. Bojano is the nearest town of some size, with services and a historic centre, at the foot of the same mountain system. The area is known for mountain pasture, springs and karst landscapes of the Matese.
