The cluster sits on the plain between Perugia and Assisi at the foot of the Monte Subasio massif (Monte Subasio rises to about 1,290 m); the Parco Regionale del Monte Subasio is within 15 km. Assisi, including the Basilica of San Francesco (UNESCO World Heritage Site), lies a few kilometres away. Perugia (the provincial capital) is about 8–10 km distant and provides a university, regional train connections, hospitals and cultural institutions. Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport is adjacent to the plain and handles scheduled and seasonal flights. Deruta, known for its ceramics, is within roughly 10 km to the south-west. The SS75 (Centrale Umbra) road axis crosses the plain giving direct road links toward Foligno and Perugia, and the area is served by regional rail. The immediate surroundings are an agricultural plain of olive groves, orchards and arable fields; there are no significant lakes within the 15 km radius and no national park status (only the regional park on Monte Subasio).
