Hills and ridges of the Ligurian Apennines (including Monte Fasce to the NE and Monte Gazzo to the W) rise immediately inland within the 15 km radius. The cluster sits on the Gulf of Genoa on the Ligurian Sea, with a major port and an extended seafront (Porto Antico, promenades and harbour infrastructure) within walking or short driving distance. There are no regional or national parks wholly inside a 15 km radius of central Genova. No ski lifts are within 15 km; ski areas in the Apennines lie further inland. The city of Genova (population ~564,080) is the provincial and regional hub with an international airport (Aeroporto Cristoforo Colombo, Sestri Ponente), major railway stations (Genova Piazza Principe and Genova Brignole), ferry terminals with regular connections to Corsica, Sardinia and other Tyrrhenian ports, university faculties, hospitals and multiple maritime and civic museums. The historic centre of Genova contains the Palazzi dei Rolli, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The immediate surrounding landscape is urban fabric built into steep, terraced coastal hills and narrow valleys, with remaining olive- and vineyard terraces on some slopes and industrial/port zones along the shoreline.
