The cluster is on the Bellagio peninsula between the Como and Lecco branches of Lake Como, with deep water immediately below steep pre-Alpine slopes. The Larian Triangle rises directly behind Bellagio, with Monte San Primo the dominant local mountain. Bellagio is part of the central Lake Como landscape, and the lake itself is the defining feature within the 15 km radius. Bellagio has a substantial historic centre, ferry links across the lake, and lakefront villas and gardens; Villa Melzi is in the town and Villa Carlotta is across the water at Tremezzo. The area is known for the meeting of the three branches of Lake Como and for historic lakeside villas and gardens.
