Perugia sits on a hill above the Umbrian plain and is the regional capital with a medieval historic centre, Etruscan remains and the Rocca Paolina. The city is home to the University of Perugia and hosts major cultural events such as Umbria Jazz and the Eurochocolate festival. The immediate surrounding landscape is composed of rolling hills with olive groves, vineyards and mixed agricultural parcels. The Umbrian Apennines lie to the east/northeast and are visible from the city.
