The cluster sits in the inland low hills above the Tyrrhenian coastal plain of western Reggio Calabria. The Tyrrhenian Sea and the coastal plain are about 10 km to the west; the town and port of Gioia Tauro, with its large container terminal and industrial area, lie on the coast within roughly 10–15 km. The immediate surroundings are low wooded and agricultural hills with small villages and scattered farmland; there is no high alpine relief inside a 15 km radius. Road and rail corridors run along the coastal plain below, concentrating larger shops, services and transport links in Gioia Tauro and neighbouring coastal towns. The Aspromonte massif and its national park lie to the south‑east of the province, but the main protected mountainous areas are more than 15 km from Laureana di Borrello; there are no ski areas or large lakes within the 15 km radius.
