The area around
Location score 68/100The area sits within the Sulcis mining district and contains 19th–20th century coal-mining infrastructure and industrial-archaeological sites, including the Serbariu mining complex. The town houses the Museo del Carbone and preserved mining buildings. The Sulcis coast is within the local 15 km radius, with small ports such as Portoscuso and Portovesme and stretches of beaches and coastal lagoons. Portovesme includes a large industrial harbour and metallurgical plants. The inland landscape is low hills and plains covered in Mediterranean maquis, pasture and scattered farmland (olives, cereals). Phoenician-Punic and Roman archaeological remains (Monte Sirai) lie close to the town. There are no ski lifts or high mountain relief in the immediate area. The wider territory is included in the Parco Geominerario Storico e Ambientale della Sardegna, which records the island’s mining heritage.
