Basiglio lies on the flat Po Valley plain in the southern outskirts of the Milan metropolitan area. The comune contains the planned residential quarter Milano 3. Within about 15 km the landscape is a mix of suburban and urban fabric, industrial and commercial zones, and agricultural fields rather than named natural landmarks. The Parco Agricolo Sud Milano (regional agricultural park) covers parts of the surrounding plain and is nearby. There are no mountains, lakes or coastline within 15 km; alpine foothills are many tens of kilometres away. The nearest large city is Milan, which supplies regional rail, long-distance services, airports and major services; Basiglio functions as part of Milan’s commuter belt.
