The Sinis peninsula and the Gulf of Oristano are within this area, with the Stagno di Cabras lagoon beside the town. The Area Marina Protetta Penisola del Sinis – Isola di Mal di Ventre and the wetland system around Cabras include salt flats, lagoons and low coastal land used by resident and migratory birds. The beaches on the Sinis coast include quartz-sand stretches such as Is Arutas and Mari Ermi. Tharros, the archaeological site on the Sinis headland, is within the peninsula. Oristano is the nearest town of size and has the main services, rail station and administrative functions for the area. The area is known for bottarga from the Cabras lagoon and for coastal wetlands and fishing.
