The area sits between the lower Tordino and Vomano river country, with the Adriatic coast a few kilometres east. Gran Sasso and the Monti della Laga rise inland to the west and are the dominant mountain backdrop for this part of Teramo province, with Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park beginning farther inland. The nearest town of size is Giulianova on the coast, with a port, beaches and rail connections, while Teramo inland is the provincial capital with full services and a historic centre. This stretch of northern Abruzzo is known for mixed hill farming, olive groves and vineyards between the coast and the first Apennine slopes.
