The cluster is in the northern Apennines, in the hills and wooded valleys between the Reno and Panaro catchments. This part of the Bologna Apennines has chestnut woods, pastures and sandstone ridges, with Monte Cimone and the higher Modenese Apennines farther south but outside the immediate area. Corno alle Scale Regional Park lies beyond the 15 km radius to the east-southeast. The nearest ski lifts are at Corno alle Scale, roughly an hour’s drive depending on the road. The nearest larger town is Vergato, with basic services and rail access toward Bologna; Bologna is the main city used for higher-level services and work. The area is known for small Apennine villages, woodland and hiking terrain rather than for a single standout monument or protected landscape within immediate reach.
