This is the flat lower Pianura Padana between Bologna and Ferrara, with reclaimed farmland, canals and drainage ditches around the Reno valley. The Po Delta regional park system reaches into the wider plain to the east with the Valli di Argenta wetlands within about 15 km, an area of lagoons, reedbeds and bird habitat. Ferrara is the nearest major historic city in daily reach, with a large Renaissance centre and UNESCO status, but it is outside the immediate 15 km landscape. The area is known for arable farming on the Bolognese-Ferrarese plain.
