The Ligurian Apennines surround Ferriere, with wooded valleys and higher ridges on the provincial border toward Monte Maggiorasca and Monte Nero. The Nure valley runs through the area, and the upper Val Nure is the main local landscape. Much of the nearby high ground falls in the Piacenziano section of the regional parks system around the Aveto-Trebbia-Nure protected area. The nearest substantial ski area is Santo Stefano d’Aveto on Monte Bue, roughly an hour by road. The nearest town of size is Piacenza, which provides the main rail connections, services and a full city centre. The area is known for Apennine pasture, woodland, mushroom foraging and scattered stone hamlets.
