Location score 90/100The Sibillini Mountains rise immediately around Norcia, with Monte Vettore and the high Apennine basin of the Piano Grande and Piano Piccolo of Castelluccio within this area. Much of the surrounding landscape falls inside the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini. The nearest ski area is Forca Canapine on the ridge east of Norcia, about a 20-minute drive, with larger lifts farther away toward the central Apennines. Norcia is the main town in this basin and has a walled historic centre with the Basilica of San Benedetto area and the usual services of a small mountain town. The area is known for the Castelluccio plain, lentil cultivation, black truffle, and cured pork products linked to the norcineria tradition.
