This cluster is in the built-up area of Perugia, so the lived setting is an urban hill city rather than open countryside. The city stands on a ridge between the upper Tiber valley and the Umbrian Valley, with rolling cultivated hills immediately around it. The Tiber runs to the north and west of the city area. Lake Trasimeno lies beyond the 15 km radius, so it does not define the immediate surroundings. Perugia is the nearest town of size and has a large historic centre, the medieval and Renaissance core around Corso Vannucci, the university, and the regional service base. The area is known for Perugia’s historic urban fabric and as the administrative and university centre of Umbria.
