The cluster is on the Valdichiana side of Cortona, with the hills of the eastern Tuscan uplands above the plain and long views across the Chiana valley toward Lake Trasimeno in Umbria. Lake Trasimeno lies just beyond the regional border and is part of the daily geography from this side of Cortona. Cortona is the nearest town of size; it has a substantial historic centre on the hillside with Etruscan remains, churches, museums and a developed service base. Cortona is known for its Etruscan history, its hill town setting over the Valdichiana, and for vineyards and olive growing in the surrounding countryside.
