This is in the built-up area of Pistoia, on the plain between Monte Albano and the first slopes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The Ombrone Pistoiese crosses the city. The nearest mountain area is Abetone on the upper Apennine, with ski lifts roughly an hour to an hour and a half away by road depending on the exact lift. Pistoia itself is the nearest town of size and has a substantial historic centre with the Piazza del Duomo, the cathedral of San Zeno and the Ospedale del Ceppo. The city centre is on the UNESCO tentative list as part of the serial Medici route, but there is no UNESCO World Heritage designation here. The surrounding area is known for plant nurseries and ornamental horticulture.
