Monte San Bartolo Regional Park sits on the coastal ridge north of the town and is inside the 15 km radius; the park includes cliffs, walking trails and viewpoints along the Adriatic. The Foglia river crosses the plain and reaches the sea in the town. The land inland rises fairly quickly to the Marche foothills of the Apennines within the 15 km area, where vineyards, olive groves and mixed farmland are common. There are no ski lifts within 15 km; the nearest Apennine ski areas are roughly 60–90 km away (about 1.5–2 hours by car). Fano is the nearest other sizeable town on the coast to the northwest, with Roman remains (the Arch of Augustus), a long-standing carnival and a regular market. The town is the birthplace of composer Gioachino Rossini and hosts the Teatro Rossini and the annual Rossini Opera Festival. The immediate coast includes sandy beaches and several seaside resorts and marinas within the local coastline.
