Via Basilicata, Palazzo San Gervasio

This is open agricultural country on the northern Basilicata plateau near the border with Puglia, with broad cereal fields, low rolling ground and scattered farmsteads. The Ofanto valley lies nearby to the north, and the nearest larger centres in daily use are Melfi and Cerignola, which provide most higher-level shops and services. Melfi has a substantial historic centre and castle. This part of Basilicata is known for wheat farming and, around Melfi, for the Aglianico del Vulture wine area, though the Vulture slopes themselves are farther west.
