To the south-west, within this radius, begins the Pollino massif and the Pollino National Park, the largest national park in Italy, with high forested ridges and limestone mountains; the slopes above San Severino Lucano and Chiaromonte are the nearest mountain zone. The nearest town of some size is Senise, which provides basic services around the Monte Cotugno reservoir area just beyond the immediate surroundings.
