Contrada Lavangone, Potenza

The cluster is in the built-up area of Potenza, so the immediate setting is an inland hill city rather than open countryside. The Lucanian Apennines surround this part of Basilicata, with wooded ridges and valleys close to the city. The Basento valley runs through Potenza. The nearest ski area is Sellata-Arioso on the Maddalena mountains, roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive depending on the starting point in the city. Potenza is the nearest town of size and has the full services of a provincial capital, including a historic centre, rail and road links, hospitals and universities. This part of Basilicata is known for its mountainous interior, forests and dispersed hill settlements.
