The cluster is in the northern Apennines, with the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine ridges around Monte Venere and Monte Adone shaping the immediate landscape. The Setta and Savena valley system is the main local geography. Much of the area falls in or beside the Parco Storico di Monte Sole, a protected hill and woodland area between the Reno and Setta valleys. Monte Adone, south of Monzuno, is a known sandstone outcrop and hiking destination within the local area. Bologna is the nearest city of size, with full services, rail links and the airport. The area is known for Apennine walking routes including stretches connected with the Via degli Dei between Bologna and Florence.
