The cluster lies in the Sabatini hills north of Rome, with low volcanic relief, wooded slopes and farmed ground. The Treja valley is nearby, and much of this area falls within the Veio Regional Park, a protected landscape of tufa ravines, fields and woodland. Lake Bracciano is within roughly 15 km to the west. The nearest larger town is Civita Castellana, with services and rail links; Rome is the main city for higher-order services and work, but beyond the local landscape. The area is known for its volcanic terrain and for a belt of small historic villages on the northern edge of the Roman countryside.
