Frazione Albaneto, Leonessa

The cluster sits in the central Apennines close to the Lazio–Abruzzo regional border. The immediate surroundings are mountainous with high pastures and areas of beech and chestnut woodland typical of the Reatino–Abruzzo Apennines. Within about 15 km there are small mountain villages, mixed farmland and forestry rather than large towns or coastal features. The nearest larger centres for services are the provincial capital Rieti and the city of L'Aquila (Abruzzo). The area has cold, snowy winters and an economy based on pastoral agriculture, forestry and small-scale mountain tourism. No nationally famous landmark lies inside a 15 km radius.
