The cluster is in the northern Apennines, in the ridge-and-valley country around Monte Vigese and Monte Bibele. Lake Suviana lies in the municipality and Lake Brasimone is nearby; much of the area falls in the Suviana e Brasimone Regional Park. The nearest ski area is Corno alle Scale, roughly an hour by road depending on the exact hamlet. The nearest larger town of size for daily services is Porretta Terme, with rail connections, shops and thermal facilities; Bologna is farther away for city-level services. The area is known for chestnut woods, reservoirs and mountain walking.
