Sovicille sits on the rolling hills west–southwest of Siena in the Sienese hill country. The immediate area (within ~15 km) is a patchwork of agricultural hills, woodland and small valleys with streams feeding the Ombrone river basin. The city of Siena is about 8–10 km to the east; Siena offers a cathedral (Duomo), the Piazza del Campo, hospitals, a railway station and a historic centre listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The surrounding territory contains multiple small medieval villages and parish churches and is served by rural, often narrow, local roads. There are vineyards and olive groves in the area as part of southern Tuscan agricultural production; larger named wine districts (Chianti) lie in the broader region. No major lakes or alpine ski lifts are within 15 km (Monte Amiata and its ski facilities are farther south).
