The cluster sits in the Val d'Elsa, the valley drained by the Elsa river. San Gimignano (the historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site) lies within about 10 km to the north and its medieval tower skyline is inside the 15 km radius. Colle di Val d'Elsa is a nearby town (a few kilometres away) known for its historic centre and for glass/crystal production. The surrounding landscape is the rolling, cultivated hills typical of central Tuscany, with vineyards, olive groves and agricultural parcels. Parts of the Via Francigena pilgrim route run through the Val d'Elsa area (through San Gimignano and Colle di Val d'Elsa). There are no ski lifts within the 15 km radius; the nearest mountain ski areas are in the Apennines well beyond 50 km. The area is part of the broader Chianti/Siena wine-and-olive producing region and is inhabited by several small medieval hill towns and villages within short drives.
