The cluster is in the built-up area of Terni, so the immediate setting is an urban basin in the Nera valley rather than open countryside. The Nera River runs through the area, and the Marmore Falls lie about 8 km east, fed by the Velino into the Nera. The Valnerina begins just beyond the city toward Papigno and Arrone, with wooded limestone hills and narrower river scenery within the 15 km radius. Terni is the nearest town of size and has the full services of a provincial capital, a railway station, and a substantial industrial fabric. The area is known for the Marmore Falls and for Terni's steel industry.
