The settlement occupies hill country above the Tiber valley; the River Tiber (Fiume Tevere) runs through the valley below. The Monte Peglia and Selva di Meana nature reserve of wooded limestone hills lies within the 15 km radius. Small reservoirs on the Tiber, notably Lago di Corbara and Lago di Alviano, are in the surrounding valley. There are no ski lifts in the local area. The Tiber plain below carries the Florence–Rome railway (Allerona Scalo/Orvieto axis) and the A1 motorway corridor. The nearest town of size is Orvieto (roughly 10–15 km), with its cathedral, Etruscan archaeology, a railway station on the Florence–Rome line and the shops and services expected of a provincial town. The countryside around Allerona is worked for vineyards (Orvieto DOC), olive groves and mixed arable farming.
