The houses are in the Caffaro valley in the Lombard Prealps, with the mountains of the Alpi Bresciane immediately around the settlement. Lake Idro begins just south of Bagolino. The area is linked to the Parco dell'Alto Garda Bresciano on the western side of the lake, and the upper valley leads toward the Crocedomini pass country. The nearest ski area is Maniva, above the valley, reached by a mountain road in roughly 30–40 minutes from Bagolino. The nearest town of some size is Vestone down the Sabbia valley, while Brescia is the main city for higher-level services. Bagolino is known for its historic mountain village fabric, its carnival tradition, and Bagòss cheese.
