The area sits in the lower Varesotto-Comasco plain, with a largely built and cultivated landscape between the Olona and Lura valleys. The Parco Pineta di Appiano Gentile e Tradate lies nearby, with mixed woodland and heath typical of this part of upper Lombardy. The nearest larger towns are Saronno and Tradate, with rail services, shops and daily services, while Como and Varese are farther out for broader urban functions. This part of the province is known more for its position between Milan, Como and Varese than for a single named landscape feature.
