The area around
Location score 74/100The cluster sits on low agricultural hills of northern Lazio (the inland edge of the Maremma/Lazio plain). The Etruscan necropolises and historic centre of Tarquinia, part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for the Etruscan necropolises of Cerveteri and Tarquinia, lie within roughly 12 km; Tarquinia also has the local archaeological museum. Tarquinia is the nearest town of size and provides shops, schools, municipal services and a railway station on the Rome–Civitavecchia–Grosseto line. There is no named mountain range or national park within about 15 km. The Tyrrhenian coast (Tarquinia Lido, Montalto di Castro) is on the same coastal plain a short drive away (sea ~17 km). The area is within the broader zone known for Etruscan archaeology and for agricultural production (olive oil and local wines). Larger urban centres are Viterbo (to the east, roughly 45–60 km) and the port town of Civitavecchia (to the south-west, roughly 35–45 km).
