Monterosso Calabro sits on inland hills of the Tyrrhenian coastal strip in Vibo Valentia province; the Tyrrhenian Sea and the coastal plain are about 10 km to the west. The locality is in the hinterland where short rises and agricultural hills meet the coastal plain rather than high mountains. The Calabrian Apennines (including the Serre Calabresi) form higher ground in the province to the northeast but the main peaks and protected national-park areas are generally farther inland than this cluster. There are no ski lifts or mountain resorts within the immediate 15 km radius. Nearest larger settlements on the coast include Pizzo and the provincial capital Vibo Valentia, which provide regional road and rail connections and typical provincial services. The local economy and landscape are dominated by Mediterranean agriculture (olives, citrus and mixed hill farms) and the nearby coast receives seasonal beach tourism in summer.
