Vico Tavella, Maierato

The cluster is in the low inland hills behind the Tyrrhenian coast of central Calabria, with short drives to the beaches of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia around Pizzo and Vibo Marina. Monte Poro rises nearby to the south-west, forming the local upland between the coast and the Tropea area. Vibo Valentia is the nearest town of size, with services, shops and a Norman-Swabian castle that houses the state archaeological museum. Pizzo is the nearest notable coastal town, known for its historic centre and tuna fishery traditions. This part of Calabria is known for olive groves, small mixed farmland and the coastal plain around the Angitola area.
