The cluster is in the built-up area of Viterbo, so the setting is an urban provincial city rather than open countryside. The Cimini Mountains rise nearby and Lake Vico lies within this area, inside the Regional Natural Reserve of Lake Vico. Montefiascone and the south-eastern shore of Lake Bolsena are also within reach of the wider Viterbo basin. Viterbo itself has a large medieval center and is known for the Papal Palace and the historic quarter of San Pellegrino. The city is known for thermal waters, with several spa and hot-spring sites around the Viterbo area.
