The coast at Savona is the Ligurian Sea and the town sits on a working harbour and marina. The Letimbro river reaches the sea at Savona. Parco Regionale del Beigua (Beigua Regional Park) lies within the local area; the Beigua area is also designated a UNESCO Global Geopark. The A10/E80 motorway and the main coastal railway run through Savona, and the city has passenger port facilities and ferries. Genoa (larger city with the nearest major airport) is to the east by road and rail, outside the 15 km zone. The local economy and land use combine coastal town/port infrastructure, seaside tourism and steep, forested Apennine slopes a short drive inland.
