The nearest town of size is Alessandria, which has the main services, rail connections and a substantial historic centre. Tortona is also nearby and is the main smaller centre for daily needs. The wider area is known for agriculture on the plain and, a little farther into the surrounding hills, for wine zones such as Colli Tortonesi, but the cluster itself sits in low river plain rather than in the hill landscape.
