The cluster sits in the foothills of the Umbrian Apennines: wooded hills and agricultural land are the immediate surroundings within about 15 km. There is no coast or large lake inside the 15 km radius; the local landscape is formed by small river and stream valleys typical of eastern Umbria. There are no ski lifts within 15 km; upland Apennine skiing is a longer drive into the Apennines. The nearest larger urban centres are Gualdo Tadino itself (the listed town, population ~14,000) and, further afield, Gubbio to the north and Perugia (provincial capital) to the west, the latter providing a university, regional airport and major hospital services. The town and its surroundings have a historical ceramics and majolica production tradition and a medieval town centre. No UNESCO or national-park designation is centred on the immediate 15 km radius.
