The Lepini Mountains rise immediately around Bassiano. The area is tied to the montane edge above the Pontine plain, with extensive views across the plain toward the Tyrrhenian side of Lazio. The Monti Lepini are a karst range with limestone slopes, woods and pasture. Norma, a nearby hill town, has the Giardino di Ninfa in the plain below and the ruins of ancient Norba. The nearest larger town is Latina, which provides the main services and rail connections for the area. This part of the Lepini is known for mountain villages and for prosciutto di Bassiano.
