Santa Marina Salina is the main harbour and settlement on the island of Salina in the Aeolian archipelago, with the sea immediately accessible from the town and a passenger ferry terminal. Salina is a volcanic island and part of the Aeolian Islands UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island's highest summit, Monte Fossa delle Felci, rises to about 960 m and lies within the 15 km radius. The local landscape includes terraced vineyards and cultivation of capers and production of Malvasia wine. Regular ferry connections serve Lipari and Milazzo (Sicily); Lipari is the nearest larger town and provides a larger port, shops and museums. The local economy is principally seasonal tourism, fishing and small-scale agriculture. Other Aeolian islands and open marine waters lie within short boat distance and are used for boating and diving.
