The area around
Location score 97/100Capri is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea at the southern end of the Gulf of Naples. The island's highest point is Monte Solaro (about 589 m) in Anacapri; a public chairlift runs from Anacapri close to the summit. The coastline has steep limestone cliffs, sea caves and stacks, including the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) and the Faraglioni rocks just offshore. Main settlements are the town of Capri (with the Piazzetta and a funicular to Marina Grande) and Anacapri. Regular ferry and hydrofoil connections link the island with Sorrento, the islands of Ischia and Procida and the port of Naples; Naples Capodichino is the nearest major airport on the mainland. The island contains Roman-era remains such as Villa Jovis. Road access around the island is by narrow roads and many central areas are pedestrianised. The area is known for boat excursions around the island, sea caves, visitor-oriented shops, restaurants and hotels.
